One of the dreams of AAA Founder, Lic. Antonio Peña, became reality on June 13th, 2008. Then, AAA presented the Triplemanía XVI wrestling event at the legendary Palacio de los Deportes, in Mexico City.
The main event had wrestler Cibernético retain his AAA Megacampeonato title before challenger El Zorro, on a match where AAA President Lic. Joaquín Roldán acted as a second to the so-called “Main Man” of wrestling, while Konnan did the same on the side of El Zorro. During the match, AAA President, Lic. Joaquín Roldán, suffered a serious injury at the hands of Konnan, who pushed the President against one of the corners of the ring, an act that enraged Cibernético, who, after performing his famous “Garra Cibernética” move, managed to defeat his rival, thus winning one of the most important matches of his career.
The previous match had the eagerly-awaited presentation of U.S. wrestler Bobby Lashley, who teamed up with another pair of famous wrestlers: Kenzo Suzuki and Electroshock. Together, they defeated their challengers: Chessman, La Parka and Silver King, who also had his first fight at AAA, arriving as a surprise contender against Lashley.
On a special “Hardcore” match, which had a 15-minute-limit, wrestler El Mesías fought to a tie with Vampiro Canadiense, but not before both wrestlers were allowed to show-off their respective skills, presenting a spectacular match before an awed audience.
On a very emotional and hard to forget match, wrestling sisters Faby Apache and Mary Apache fought against each other, after which both female stars ended up covered in blood. In the end, and after Faby emerged victorious, both sisters hugged each other, alongside their father, wrestling legend El Apache and Marvin, the son of Faby. (Mary Apache was supposed to have her hair shaved off but their father El Apache pleaded with them for shaving his hair instead)
On another match, one full of moves of the highest-technical quality, the so-called “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson presented for the first time at the AAA. He had a very solid reputation among the American independent circle of wrestlers. He teamed up with Jack Evans and Teddy Hart to fight against Los Mexican Power (Crazy Boy, Último Gladiador and Ricky Marvin), and La Familia de Tijuana (Xtreme Tiger, Halloween and TJ Xtreme). In the end, Los Mexican Power emerged victorious, but their celebration was short-lived, as the newly-formed wrestling team deemed as Hermandad 187 (Nicho el Millonario, Joe Líder and X-Fly) arrived on the ring to battle the Mexican wrestlers, leaving them badly injured and humiliated.
The previous match saw wrestlers Alan Stone, Octagón and Brazo de Plata win against Psicosis II, Histeria II and Black Abyss.
Wrestlers Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Dark Ozz and Dark Espíritu (The Black Family) defeated rivals Aerostar, Super Fly and El Ángel (Real Fuerza Aerea).
